Lest We Forget at the War Memorial Center in Milwaukee starting on Friday, June 7 at 10AM
The War Memorial Center Board of Trustees invites you to join us at the opening of our latest exhibit, LEST WE FORGET, honoring Wisconsin’s service members held as prisoners-of-war and those classified as missing-in-action.
This powerful new exhibit, Lest We Forget — Remembering Wisconsin POW/MIA, features informative static and interactive displays with the stories and experiences of our brave service members held as prisoners of war or who are/were missing in action. One exhibit titled Unbroken: Life as a Prisoner of War features a prison cell experience where visitors will peer into a prison door to view a POW cell from the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.” This is where Bay View, Wisconsin native U.S. Air Force Captain Lance Sijan was held a prisoner of war along with the late Senator John McCain who said this about Sijan (who died in captivity in 1968 at the age of 25), “A long time ago, I lived for a time in the company of heroes; men who endured great hardships, but who refused to lose faith in their God, their country, and their comrades. I am a witness to a thousand acts of compassion, sacrifice, and endurance. But of all the men whose dignity humbles me, one name is revered among all others — Sijan.”
The public is invited to the free grand opening of Lest We Forget at the War Memorial Center in Milwaukee.
