No ‘rock lobster’ for the B-52’s

No ‘rock lobster’ for the B-52’s

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — One of the founders of the quirky rock band The B-52s is using the 35th anniversary of its hit “Rock Lobster” to reiterate his opposition to eating them.

Fred Schneider says he stopped eating crustaceans at age 4 after going crabbing with family in New Jersey and watching them boiled alive.

The lifelong vegetarian said in video narrated for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that he views crabs and lobsters not as seafood but as “sea life.”

Schneider got the idea for “Rock Lobster” when a projector displayed images including lobsters on a grill at an Atlanta disco. He said he thought, “Rock this, rock that… rock lobster!”

The band jammed on the title and the song was born. The band’s other hits include “Love Shack” and “Roam.”

Time for Iran to make tough decisions in nuclear talks

In this March 26, 2015, photo, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, center, leaves a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and other U.S. officials at a hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland. U.S. and Iranian diplomats gather at a Baroque palace in Europe, a historic nuclear agreement within reach. Over Iraq’s deserts, their militaries fight a common foe. Leaders in Washington and Tehran, capitals once a million miles from each other in ideological terms, wrestle for the first time in decades with the notion of a rapprochement.

Six world powers and Iran move closer to a deal, but there are still major disagreements.
