Rocker Jon Bon Jovi is to receive a special award for his philanthropy.

The Bon Jovi star has been named the 2014 recipient of the Marian Anderson Award, which recognizes artists who make a valuable social contribution, and he will pick up the accolade at a ceremony in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in November.

The prize is named after opera star and Philadelphia native Marian Anderson, who became the first black soloist at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1955.

The “Livin’ on a Prayer” hitmaker, who runs the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, says of the award, “It’s a great honor to be recognized by the great city of Philadelphia, in receiving this prestigious award. The JBJ Soul Foundation originated in Philadelphia and will continue to reach those in need, both locally and nationally. Through the ‘power of WE,’ we can end homelessness and hunger.”

The star is slated to accept the prize and a $25,000 charity donation on Nov. 18.

Previous recipients include Mia Farrow, Sidney Poitier, Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Gere.
